Simple present or so-called present simple is a type tense that is used to express daily routines or habitual actions and facts or general truth. Simply, if we want to tell or describe our daily activities or habits, present simple should be applied.Here are some examples of daily routines or habits;

    • We go to school every day.
    • She takes a bath three times a day.
    • The news usually starts at 6.00 every evening.
    • Do you usually have bacon and eggs for breakfast?

Here are some examples of daily routines or habits;

  • My mother has two children.
  • Water freezes at 0° C or 32° F.
  • The sun rises from the east.
  • The Thames flows through London.

Simple present can also refer to future activity. So, in this case, the simple present which implies future activity should be in a timetable.

Here are some examples o future facts, usually found in a timetable or a chart;

  • Christmas Day falls on a Monday this year.
  • The plane leaves at 5.00 tomorrow morning.
  • Ramadan doesn’t start for another 3 weeks.
  • The class begins at 10 this week.

The third person (he and she) and singular name of person (E.g. Rendra, Dina, etc.) the Verb must be added by “s/es”. The role to add “s/es” depends on the last letter of the verb as the predicate. If the last letter of the verb are; “ss, sh, ch, x, o dan y*must be added by “s/es”.
For examples;
kiss = kisses                            wash = washes                        fix = fixes
watch = watches                                 go = goes

Verb ending “y” must be added by ‘es’ if before ‘y’ there is a consonant
Here are the example of verb ending by “y” is added by es.

While verb ending “y” must be added by ‘s’ if before ‘y’ there is a vocal.
